The larger of the two freezers measuring 20,000 square feet is equipped with a temperature-controlled ante-chamber utilizing two electric sliding doors in order to maintain the integrity and uniformity of temperature and humidity in the main storage area. The freezer design provides for redundant fan coil units, condensing units and dual compressors with a separate oil reservoir, as well as separate refrigerant piping so that room conditions will be maintained at all times, including during defrost cycle. The temperature control range of the freezer is +/-3°C, and the room dry bulb and dew point temperatures recover within two minutes after door opening.

The system utilizes the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 to control, monitor, and record all aspects of room operation. With its multiple processor choices, numerous power supply options and extensive I/O capacity, the modular SLC 500 controller offers maximum flexibility in system configuration. The room design provides a lockable control panel within a NEMA 1 enclosure, temperature chart recorders with an accuracy of +0.5% of span, and a sensor range of 0 to 100% with an accuracy of +/-2%.
